Mombasa, Kenya – August 1, 2025
The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) have reaffirmed their joint commitment to enhancing collaboration in support of Kenya’s Blue Economy and the broader maritime industry.
On Thursday, the KMA Board of Directors—led by Chairman Hon. Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed and Director General Mr. Omae Nyarandi—visited the Port of Mombasa for a strategic meeting with KPA Managing Director Capt. William Ruto.
The leaders held discussions focused on improving industry efficiency, identifying operational gaps, and aligning Kenya’s port and maritime services with global standards.
Capt. Ruto emphasized the sector’s potential to create employment, especially through seafaring programs, maritime safety, and Blue Economy initiatives. He noted that with better coordination and modern systems, the maritime industry could serve as a powerful engine for economic growth.
Hon. Mohamed reaffirmed KMA’s regulatory commitment to enhancing port efficiency and ensuring operational integrity across all maritime activities.
Director General Nyarandi echoed the importance of collaboration, stating that a strong and responsive Kenya Maritime Authority is essential for sustained industry development. He expressed optimism about deepening partnerships with KPA to unlock new growth opportunities.
The visit signals a renewed effort by both institutions to streamline maritime governance and promote Kenya’s leadership in the regional shipping and logistics space.
As Kenya continues to invest in the Blue Economy, the strengthened ties between KPA and KMA are expected to play a vital role in building a competitive, sustainable, and inclusive maritime future.
