Kalmar and Patrick Terminals have renewed their long-standing partnership with the signing of a new 10-year supply and support agreement, marking two decades of successful terminal automation at the Port of Brisbane. The milestone underscores both companies’ commitment to next-generation container handling technologies and sustained operational excellence in Australia’s busiest east-coast port.
The new deal extends Kalmar’s role as the primary provider of automated straddle carriers and lifecycle support services at Patrick’s Brisbane Autostrad Terminal—one of the world’s pioneering facilities for automated straddle carrier operations. Since its launch in 2005, the terminal has become a benchmark for automated container handling efficiency, safety, and reliability.
A Partnership Built on Innovation
Over the past 20 years, Kalmar’s Autostrad™ technology has become central to Patrick’s terminal operating model, enabling high-density container stacking, reduced labour exposure in hazardous areas, and faster landside operations. The new agreement covers the ongoing supply of Kalmar automated straddle carriers, system upgrades, software enhancements, and long-term maintenance support.
Patrick Terminals noted that the partnership has been instrumental to the terminal’s ability to handle growing trade volumes while maintaining consistent productivity standards.
Supporting a New Era of Terminal Performance
The renewed agreement aligns with Patrick’s broader strategy to modernise and future-proof its east-coast operations. Investments include digital optimisation tools, predictive maintenance technologies, and fleet upgrades designed to reduce emissions intensity across the terminal network.
Kalmar’s next-generation automated straddles—equipped with enhanced navigation, improved energy efficiency, and advanced diagnostics—will support Patrick’s long-term goals for safety, sustainability, and operational resilience.
Brisbane’s Role in Australia’s Container Trade
The Brisbane Autostrad Terminal remains one of the most advanced automated container handling facilities worldwide. With container throughput rising across Australia and supply chains becoming increasingly complex, long-term partnerships such as this reinforce the stability and competitiveness of the nation’s maritime logistics sector.
The new 10-year supply agreement ensures Patrick Terminals will continue to operate with high levels of automation reliability while preparing for evolving customer demands and environmental performance requirements.
