DP World Inaugurates Sokhna Logistics Park, Strengthening Egypt’s Role as a Regional Trade Powerhouse

DP World has officially inaugurated the Sokhna Logistics Park in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), marking a major milestone in the country’s efforts to become a global logistics and industrial hub. The new facility is designed to enhance Egypt’s trade infrastructure, streamline supply chain connectivity, and accelerate economic growth across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

A Strategic Leap for Egyptian Trade

The Sokhna Logistics Park is situated just 10 kilometres from Ain Sokhna Port, one of Egypt’s key maritime gateways on the Red Sea. The park spans over 300,000 square metres in its first phase, with an investment exceeding US$80 million. Developed and operated by DP World, the project aims to integrate logistics, warehousing, and industrial services directly with port operations — a model that has proven successful in DP World’s global network.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior Egyptian government officials and DP World executives, underscoring the project’s national and international importance.

“This facility is not just a logistics park; it is a catalyst for trade transformation in Egypt and beyond,” said a DP World spokesperson during the launch. “It strengthens the country’s position as a logistics bridge between continents and enhances its competitiveness as a manufacturing and distribution centre.”

World-Class Facilities for a Diversified Economy

The Sokhna Logistics Park offers bonded and non-bonded warehouses, open storage yards, and build-to-suit (BTS) industrial spaces. It is equipped for value-added logistics services such as labelling, sorting, packaging, inspection, and light manufacturing — all critical for companies looking to localize production and reduce turnaround times.

Target sectors include automotive, pharmaceuticals, retail, agriculture, electronics, and construction materials. By clustering these industries within a connected logistics ecosystem, DP World aims to enable manufacturers and exporters to reach both domestic and international markets faster and more efficiently.

Businesses operating in the park will benefit from the SCZONE’s incentives, including customs and VAT exemptions, simplified regulatory procedures, and unrestricted foreign currency repatriation — policies designed to attract foreign direct investment and promote export-oriented industries.

A Model of Port–Logistics Integration

The Sokhna Logistics Park complements DP World’s existing terminal operations at Ain Sokhna Port, which has undergone substantial expansion and modernization in recent years. The proximity of the park to the port allows for seamless cargo movement — from vessel to warehouse to value-added service — reducing transit times and overall logistics costs.

This integration reflects a broader shift in global trade models, where port operators are expanding beyond traditional cargo handling into end-to-end logistics and supply chain management.

“By combining port, logistics, and industrial activities under one ecosystem, Sokhna becomes more than just a gateway — it becomes a full-service trade hub,” noted an industry analyst.

Economic and Regional Impact

The project is expected to create over 300 direct jobs upon full completion, with hundreds more indirect employment opportunities across transport, logistics, and support sectors. It also reinforces Egypt’s strategic vision to position itself as a gateway to African markets and a transit corridor between Asia and Europe.

From a regional perspective, the Sokhna Logistics Park will play a key role in boosting Red Sea–Suez trade routes, which are increasingly vital for global shipping lines rerouting cargo due to congestion and geopolitical tensions in other waterways.

The park’s development also supports Egypt’s green logistics agenda, as DP World incorporates sustainability measures such as energy-efficient warehousing and digitalized logistics operations aimed at minimizing environmental impact.

A Vision for Future Expansion

Construction of the Sokhna Logistics Park began in late 2023, and by early 2025, the first phase had reached 65% completion. Following the October 2025 inauguration, Phase Two is scheduled to begin in 2026, expanding the total area and service offerings even further.

DP World’s long-term plan is to make Sokhna the largest integrated logistics and industrial park in North Africa, linking its operations with other regional assets, including Jebel Ali in the UAE and ports across East Africa.

Implications for East African Trade

The inauguration also has indirect significance for East African economies, particularly for Kenya and Tanzania, where growing maritime and logistics networks depend on efficient regional connectivity. The Sokhna facility could enhance transshipment opportunities, improve cargo flow efficiency, and attract shipping lines serving Africa’s eastern seaboard.

For logistics service providers and maritime survey firms, the park’s focus on value-added services and trade efficiency opens up new opportunities for inspection, quality assurance, and cargo handling expertise — crucial elements in maintaining international trade standards.

Conclusion

DP World’s inauguration of the Sokhna Logistics Park represents a decisive step forward in Egypt’s logistics evolution. Positioned at the crossroads of global trade, the facility merges maritime excellence with inland logistics innovation, promising to transform how goods move through the region.

With its world-class infrastructure, pro-investment environment, and strategic location, Sokhna is poised to become not just Egypt’s leading logistics hub — but a cornerstone in the future of Middle Eastern and African trade.
