Polaris International, a company best known for its automotive logistics arm Polaris Autoliners, has announced its entry into the dry bulk market through the launch of a new subsidiary, Polaris Bulkers. The move marks a strategic diversification as the group seeks to broaden its shipping portfolio beyond vehicle transport.
The new dry bulk unit will be headquartered in Singapore and led by industry veteran Lukasz Ogryczak, who has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Ogryczak brings extensive experience in dry bulk shipping and outlined an operating model focused on high vessel utilization and optimized scheduling to minimize downtime.
“Our business model is built around minimising downtime by combining different trading patterns,” Ogryczak said, adding that the aim is to deliver competitive freight rates by leveraging efficiency and smart deployment strategies.
Modern Fleet and Long-Term Partnerships
Polaris Bulkers is expected to operate a fleet of modern bulk carriers targeting long-term charters with commodity traders, miners, and industrial shippers. The company indicated that it will prioritize efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in its operations.
“As global trade evolves, we see rising demand for reliable, modern bulk carrier capacity,” said Walid Salloum, Chairman of Polaris International. “Our ambition is to operate a fleet that combines competitive efficiency with strong service and environmental performance.”
Diversification Beyond Automotive Shipping
Polaris currently transports more than 600,000 vehicles annually across Europe. With the creation of Polaris Bulkers, the company aims to strengthen its position in global shipping by tapping into commodity flows, thereby reducing exposure to cyclical downturns in automotive logistics.
Industry observers note that the expansion underscores a broader trend of shipping companies diversifying into multiple segments to balance market volatility and capture new growth opportunities.
The launch of Polaris Bulkers signals Polaris International’s intent to become a more versatile player in global maritime transport, leveraging its established logistics expertise while positioning for growth in the dry bulk trade.
